The Start  -  Balloons at the lay-by

The 2009 Treasure Hunt took us on a wonderful tour of sunny Fife.  Around 20 participants in five cars did their best to follow the route cunningly devised by David and Aileen Clarke.  The journey took us from a lay-by on the A91 through Strathmiglo, Dunshalt, Falkland, Leslie and Star, finally ending up at Dams of Rameldry near Kingskettle where a splendid barbecue was laid on in David and Aileen’s garden to allow the competitors to replenish their energies.

Although nominally a competitive event, the teams managed to socialise at various stops on the way, even exchanging information at times!  High scores were obtained by all entrants, despite the efforts of some bounders to perform poorly and hence escape the obligation to run next year’s event.  We all learned a lot about the geography and history of Fife, though whether it will stick in the memory is open to some doubt.

The winners were the Glenfargers (Sandy and Helen McInnes, Christine Craig and Caroline Waring).  The Booby Prize was taken by Lord and Lady Bank and the Wee Bankies (Doris Rougvie, Hugh Hoffman, Buddy and Ciara Clarke).  The other teams had travelled down from Dundee and across from East Kilbride and Glasgow; and all enjoyed a fun afternoon – especially the hordes of small girls who all became instant friends.

Special thanks are due to David and Aileen for setting the clues and opening their house and garden for the barbecue, Sandy and Helen McInnes for their culinary skills, various ladies for washing up – and of course to Caroline Waring our social convener for overseeing the whole operation.
